Berber pottery

The extraction of the clay is done by the craftswoman. In the region of Sejnane, clay is everywhere, the craftswoman has only to dig a hole in the ground to extract it.

The earth is then washed and freed of impurities, then mixed with crushed debris of used pottery and finally shaped by hand. Then comes the polishing done with a shell and drying in the air.

Depending on the color they want to get, the potters smear with a white slip or red ocher, the pottery with natural dyes from the earth: white clay or red ocher they went to get in the surrounding hills.

The pottery and can then go to cooking that takes place on the floor, on dried branches.

Finally, they decorate their works with lines, dots, crosses, triangles and color these patterns of brown and red ocher.

The satin effect is obtained by sanding the object several times with a shell.
